thomas epidemic

Thomas the Tank Engine first entered our home a little over a year ago. At first it was fine, because it was just by way of the TV on Saturday mornings. I was worried at first because Thomas kind of drove me crazy, and I was bound and determined that I wouldn't have a Thomas-obsessed son. I had heard stories of this maddening obsession and I was a wee-bit terrified. Plus Thomas's big eyes kinda freaked me out.

Well, the TV show was a hit, and Taylor ate it up like candy. I was grateful that it was only on on Saturday mornings though. What a relief!
Until the first Thomas the Tank Engine DVD found its way into our home. The floodgates had opened. Thomas was in the house.

My friend Marie warned me of this Thomas Epidemic, but I didn't listen. Well, I did, but I was in denial, and had the 'it won't happen to us' syndrome. It did. Marie was right. I should have taken her warnings more seriously.
First it was one DVD, and then another, and then 'oh, just one more'. Well, now we have a home full of Thomas DVDs, but it doesn't stop there.

Taylor received some Thomas trains and tracks from a handful of family members over the holidays and at first it was awesome. Taylor was engaged in the trains and it kept him busy for an hour at a time - a little piece of heaven for a parent.

BUT then things got out of control. Train tracks are scattered from one end of the house to another, and definitely not intact on the train table (that would make too much sense). There are train cars under the couch, hidden in toy bins and in the car (because he can't leave home without the green engine, Percy). What happened to keeping it all on the table to play with it, where things are contained and it's organized chaos? I'd like to know what happened.
Well, it happened.

Taylor has been so exposed to Thomas that he's starting to talk like him. You know how they talk, right? They use grown up words and have accents and they are just kind of strange.

So, anyway, the other day Trask said something to Taylor that just didn't sit right with the 2-1/2 year old kiddo.

Taylor's response to Trask was hilarious, and went like this:

"Dad! You are making me CROSS!"

Come on, who says that? Thomas the Tank Engine lovers do. And it cracks me up that the word 'cross' left my son's mouth. Trask didn't really have a response to Taylor's statement, so perhaps I'll borrow that phrase the next time I need to get the last word in!

And in case you were wondering, Thomas has now invaded bath-time. Taylor now has a boat (can't remember the boat's name) for the bathtub that carries Thomas. So now Taylor constantly wants a bath. He's had 3 baths in the past 24-hours, I kid you not.
Thanks Thomas.

So what am I going to do now? I am going to expose Thomas the Tank Engine to every young child in our family and get everyone hooked so I am not alone. Is that mean? I kind of don't care.

Please note that I don't have a thing against Thomas, I just don't understand the pull he has on children! It's like catnip for cats. And I kinda like Percy way better than Thomas, that cheeky little engine.

I have lost 7 pounds. That brings me down to 102 pounds. (in my bra, perhaps!)

I am totally kidding. But I did lose 7 pounds.

Gimme That, Thursday

Yo. Happy Thursday, little lovelies. I hope that you are all having a good week and that fun weekend plans are ahead of you.

This week's Gimme That, Thursday is going to be a showcase of some great jewelry from my favorites list on Etsy. I hope you enjoy, and I also hope that I am introducing some great new jewelers to you - you'll love them all - super talented and fun.

First are these great loquat drop bead earrings in an awesome orange from ElloPoppet's etsy shop. I love the color and the simplicity. A fun punch of color!! You all know how much I love orange. Yum.

I adore, adore, adore this silver and concrete necklace. Isn't it wonderful? Oh, I need it! Soon! This is from Lulu Bug Jewelry's etsy shop and really, everything in there is lovely.

This leaf pendant with chain is another fun necklace that I can wear everyday, and I would if it was mine! This necklace was found in etsy's Thalassa Jewelry's shop. Go take a look around.

Another fun necklace is this sweet blossom necklace by carollai's shop MustardSeed on etsy. I love how pretty this necklace is, and how simple it is, yet still feminine. You guessed it, it's on my wishlist, too.

The Chloe Hoop Necklace is another great necklace that would look great on me and would probably make me lose 20 pounds and gain 40 IQ points or so. Maybe not, but this necklace is awesome. Go check out the rest of SparkleCouture's etsy shop. You will find tons more to love.

These Lemon Fizz Earrings are just the coolest, right? Holly Gems has the best prices and the coolest designs in her shop, which is why I like it so much. I have yet to buy a pair of earrings, but you know I want to! Soon!

One last great shop, Bellina Designs on etsy, has these great Tropic Earrings that I just love. The blue is gorgeous. I wish everything was this color. Amazing. Great prices and a fun shop! Go check it out!

I hope that this week's Gimme That Thursday helped you find some favorites, too!! Remember, MOTHER'S DAY is right around the corner, and I am sure any of the above shops have something perfect for Ma. Yes, I bet they do!

See you next week! And as always,
I'll leave you with this reminder: I want you all to know that I am not compensated to feature these goodies, I just pick 'em because I like them and I hope you guys like them, too, but if not, that's okay, and I'll still like you. Probably!

a quiet Tuesday evening

Hanging out at home with Taylor watching the Blazer game. That's what we are doing. Trask is at the game with a friend. Taylor has a high fever, so we are being lazy and snuggling and watching the game. I guess I don't have anything fun to say, do I? Sorry.

What are you doing tonight?

open letter to United States Postal Service

Dear Sneaky Postal Carrier,

I wanted to start this letter off by just yelling 'thieves' at the top of my lungs, but I am better than that, more polite, more tactful, more mature. Instead, I shall start off like this.

Was that immature? Sorry. Ahem. Let's try again.

I am mad. I am stomping my foot and crossing my arms and I have a perma-scowl. Would you like to know why, USPS?

It's because someone you employ stole the kitty titties I was mailing to my friend Sara and her cat, Sid, who happens to be a bachelor.

Who in their right mind steals kitty titties?! Who?! Oh wait, you do. I understand that you may have sniffed the catnip within the envelope and opened the corner just to peek, and you must have liked what you saw. You must have liked it enough to steal them. Both titties. Rude! Both! Did you really need both?! Hmmmph.

Well, sorry I called you rude. Because you did continue to pass on the flat envelope and the letter included inside, addressed to Sid and his human Sara. Well, you know what, Sid didn't like the letter. He wanted the kitty titties. And you have not only wronged me, but you have wronged Sid. And I recently learned that he can bite hard.

Are you scared yet?

So, I am going to just buy more kitty titties from Amber of Confessions of a Crochet Addict and I'll be the bigger person. I won't cry about it on my blog. I won't come after you with Sid's fangs exposed. I won't do anything. But when I see in the paper that something has happened to you and your kitty titties, I will thank karma for helping me out.

Yours truly,

PS: I'm still scowling.

Gimme That, Thursday

Friends! Welcome to another Gimme That, Thursday! Thanks for coming back, I was hoping you would.

Today's Gimme That, Thursday focuses on everything below the belt. Sounds racy, right? Well, it's not. It's just good, clean fun and awesome finds. This week's post really sums me up. I am all about being comfy and relaxed and casual. Perhaps it's a west coast thing or it's just a Shauna thing, but I love jeans, flips, painted toes and a t-shirt. Sounds like a little piece of heaven on earth.

First we have the most comfortable jeans I have ever worn. These are from Buckle, and they are the BKE Culture Stretch Jeans and believe me, they are heaven to wear. Note that I am not wearing them in this picture. A nice mannequin is. I am not that white. Almost though. Almost. I love everything about these jeans. Good pockets: check. Good fading: check. Nice cut: yes, check. Affordable: yes, check. At under $80, these jeans are a dream come true! And guess what, when you buy from Buckle, they do free hemming to make them the correct length, and not the dumb hemming where you just tuck the pant leg under and sew!! (At least they did hemming at the Eugene location when I lived down there...) SO CUTE. I really need to buy another pair. I haven't worn them in about a year... Putting it on the wish list now!

This belt buckle is amazing, is it not?! So much fun! Not big and bulky and boring. I'd say it's fun, flirty and well, awesome. It's from a great Etsy Shop called M n M Treasures and they have the coolest belt buckles of all sorts of different patterns. My all-time favorite for the time being is this turquoise sunflower jada oval belt buckle (pictured). There is something for everyone. I love how casual they are, and super fun. Go visit MnMTreasures and you'll be happy that you did!! Pinky swear.

Next is this great OPI nail color from their BRIGHTS collection, called That's Hot! Pink. I love OPI and I love pedicures and I am really thinking it's about time to go in. Want to come have a pedicure with me? If you're local to my area, let me know. We'll go get a pedicure and then a lemonade somewhere and chat! As long as you're not a weirdo. No offense.
And now we'll end with the feet. These Rainbow Narrow Strap Expresso Sandals is exactly what I want to wear right now, and all year long. I am a flip-flop girl. I just am. However, I can't handle flip flops that aren't comfy or aren't made well. These are. And I want them. Gimme!! I am already pulling an outfit together in my mind, including these flips and the above-mentioned jeans. Ahhhh... comfy.

I hope that this week's Gimme That Thursday helped you find some favorites, too!! See you next week! And as always, I'll leave you with this reminder: I want you all to know that I am not compensated to feature these goodies, I just pick 'em because I like them and I hope you guys like them, too, but if not, that's okay, and I'll still like you. Probably!

Sometimes things like this happen. The afternoon hits, I am a bit wacky in the head and I have access to wooden dowels, hot glue guns and felt.

Wonder if I can make it through the rest of the week... normally?!

can't stop laughing

If you haven't read the blog Mabel's House, it's about time you start. Soon. How about today? Good.

I will admit that I have an on-again and off-again relationship with this blog, mainly because I read so many, but when I checked in on Liz's wonderful blog today, I was glad I did.

I need to check in on this blog more often, I just have to. I wandered over to this post here and now have tear-stained cheeks from laughing so dang hard!! I feel extra dumb because I am home alone right now, and I was laughing so hard I scared the dog.

Here's another fun post to get you started. Beware, once you read her blog you'll be hooked.

mr. sandman

Is it possible for mattress salesmen to sprinkle some sort of magic glitter or crazy dream sand on your mattress before delivery? Because if it is possible, I think I am a victim of this sand sprinkling.

Ever since we got our new mattress a few weeks ago, my dreams have been insane. Like lock.me.up.insane. I have been sleeping so hard at night I don't even think I am moving at all, and when I wake up and think about the dream-world I just woke up from, I am shocked. People from the past are hanging out in my dreams, as well as random people I have maybe seen once or twice, and things are just getting bizarre.

So, if you are google searching how to counter-act the crazy dreams from the mattress man that sprinkled insane dream sand on your new plush mattress and you find something worthy of my attention, please contact me. Quickly. It's for a good cause.

Sweet Dreams. Wait. Never mind. It's 8 AM. So, have a nice day.

Well, things are lookin' a bit different, and better, over at my lemon drop studio blog! Thanks to my sweet friend Brianne (briannebeigh.com), my blog has a new, fresh, clean and awesome look!

At the beginning of this month I told Brianne I was ready for a blog over-haul, but wasn't sure what I wanted, but I knew I wanted it to be different --- well Brianne tackled my disorganized blog and my lack of decision making and grabbed my blog by the horns and told it who was boss.

Brianne did an excellent job and I can't thank her enough! She helped me make decisions I didn't have a clue about, asked great questions and really catered to my scattered mind and the image I had in my mind, but somehow couldn't explain in words. I would recommend Brianne for any print or web design because she's patient, kind and has a great sense of design, and really kept my interest in mind in all that she did.

Thanks for a great over-haul Brianne - you are simply the best!!

To see the rest of my new blog, go hop on over to lemon drop studio right now.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter to all my friends, family and loved ones (who are my friends, and family, actually).

See you on Monday! Have a great Sunday.

Gimme That, Thursday

It's Thursday, one of my most favorite days ever to blog - here's Gimme That, Thursday. This week I have chosen items that are for the home, are reasonably priced and have great colors!! Enjoy...

First is this great set of resin hoop napkin rings by Crate + Barrel. I adore the simplicity of the rings, and they have great colors. I don't like things to always match, but coordinating is good. I love these. And they are super affordable, I like that.

Next is another Crate + Barrel goodie, well 2 more goodies. First is this great magazine rack in a faux-leather finish. I like the green, and I think it would make my stack of magazines look more organized. Not that they would be more organized, but they would look like it. I'm all about tricking and deceiving. The next are these fun dot bottle stoppers which, again, are in great colors and would be so cute in your wine bottles, right?! Again, super cheap, erm, I mean, affordable. That's a better word.

Check out this great etsy shop I just stumbled upon: LeahRenee. There are tons of cute goodies in this shop, but my fave are the mini pillows in some of my favorite Amy Butler fabric. Aren't these pillows great?! Also, I am in love with this table runner. How could you not like it? I love the colors and know it'd look awesome on my table! I want it!!

Lastly is this colorful Floral Tiered Apron from Pier 1. The price is right and it's ultra cute. I love using aprons, but most of the ones I use are 1/2 aprons, so my shirt still gets messy. I LOVE how feminine this apron looks, and I kinda want to wear it as a backless dress. Can you imagine?! Sorry for the awful visual.

Probably!

{the castle}

Welcome to our little kingdom, Castle Rogers, or Rogers' Castle, or whatever you want to call our 900 square foot, 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment in the 'burbs.

I took some pictures of my home so you can see what I see everyday.

Enjoy, and please excuse the quality of the pictures. I was trying to take the pictures as quickly as possible, before Taylor pulled all his toys out and before the camera battery died. Since the pictures have been taken, both of the above have happened.

This is my front room. You walk through my front door and BAM, there's my living room. I plan on painting and distressing that dresser on the left hand side. There's also a sliding glass door to the right that leads to our patio.

And this is the couch that is evil and springs like to peek out and poke my bum when I am snuggling in with popcorn to watch Mama's Family or The Office, and then I say bad words. In my mind.

Our apartment is very open, so the dining room/craft nook, kitchen and living room are kind of one big area, so I can see everything that happens in the place, no matter where I am. So, here are some pictures of my kitchen, the bar, and my craft nook and dining room table. Both of these pictures are taken from the front door, basically.

My desk - this shares the same wall as the front door. The front door is to the right, and there's a small little dividing 1/2 wall between this corner and the door.

The first room you get to is Taylor's bedroom, and it's huge. And it has french doors, kinda. It makes me feel really fancy. I wonder if it makes him feel fancy. I'll have to ask him. His room is at an angle from the living room and kitchen.

This is my hall. Exciting, I know.

Straight down the hall is our bedroom. And to the right is the hall closet that is too small to fit hangers, and the next door down on the right is the bathroom. It's nothing magical.

Here's our bedroom, which is at the very end of the hall. It's not very exciting, but we got a new mattress, so my back is pretty happy at least.

This is Maddie's condo. It used to be Taylor's table. She's adjusting, but I think she'll like it eventually. Maybe.

Well, that's my home. We've been here for almost four years. I am holding out until we can buy a home. I pray that day is near!

this week's menu

Gosh, am I really that desperate for a blog post that I'll post my entire week's dinner menu? Yes, yes, I guess I am that desperate. Sorry. However, if there is something on here that sounds good, let me know and I can get you the recipe if you'd like. Maybe. We'll see. I'll start from 2 days ago and really confuse you, and well, I guess let you know what I've been digesting. Is that gross? Are you feeling uncomfortable? Sorry 'bout that. Moving on...

Saturday: rustic tomato + olive pizza and salad (only I didn't make a salad)

Sunday: chicken burritos (yum) and black bean and corn salad

Monday: southwestern pork chops and asparagus w/ balsamic vinegar

Tuesday: breaded chicken tenders and spring bowtie pasta salad (different than the bowties my hubby wore as a preschooler)

Wednesday: mongolian beef and cellophane noodles (fun to play with)

Thursday: chicken + mushroom marsala with couscous (I feel so fancy writing that)

Friday: potato soup and sammies, yo

Gimme That, Thursday

It's Thursday, one of my most favorite days ever to blog - here's Gimme That, Thursday. This week I have chosen items with the theme of what I want to wear to Shaunna's wedding in Asheville, North Carolina this July. Sit back and enjoy!!

First thing is first, this Pom Pom Strapless dress by Gap is just perfect! I love that it doesn't have straps, which make my shoulders look even wider than a football players, take away the straps and then the problem goes away, too. I think I have enough on top to hold up the dress! Sorry if I just ruined the cute dress for you. I love how simple it is, and I know it'll be perfect for the nice, warm and humid weather! So cute!
Next are shoes, and I like these ones that I found on Piperlime, but I am not sure if I am completely sold yet. They are Frye's Avery Toe Ring Sandals. They are super cute, but I'd have to see what they looked like on. But I do think that they match the dress well, and Lord knows I can't walk on heels, so this may be the best route for me. Do you guys like them?

Now on to accessorizing, the fun part! These Little Bean Sprout Silver Earrings from Nova Designs on Etsy have been on my favorites list for awhile. I love them! I love the simplicity (I say that a lot), and I like how cute they are. I know I will be purchasing these very soon, because they'll go with everything - oh I love them tons!! The rest of Nova Designs' shop is full of wonderful things, too, go check them out!

A fun, cute, small purse is just what I need, and look at this cute clutch, a small pralines and cream tough ruffles zipper purse! You must go visit Made by Hank's Etsy Shop, it's full of wonderful goodies. I like that it's not flashy, and looks really natural, but still has some girlishness and frills to it - oh man, I really want this. I guess why this post is called "Gimme That, Thursday", right?!

This is the final piece for now, and the cutest of all. This is from an Etsy Shop called Mandizzle. Check out this Pure White Felt Flower Hair Clip (or Brooch). I just love it! I know it'll complete the outfit, isn't it precious and fun?! The rest of Mandizzle's shop is filled with perfect nuggets of wonder and awesome, you must go check her shop out, too.

I hope that this week's Gimme That Thursday helped you find some favorites, too!! See you next week! And as always,
I'll leave you with this reminder: I want you all to know that I am not compensated to feature these goodies, I just pick 'em because I like them and I hope you guys like them, too, but if not, that's okay, and I'll still like you. Probably!

finding me

I love Google Analytics. I love it because it tells me how people get to my blog. It also tells me where they are from, and what they are wearing. Just kidding about the last part.

What I like most about GA is seeing what people search for on-line that leads them to clicking on my blog. Evidently my twin sister from a different father and mother likes doing this too, and she posts funny ones on her blog. I want to be even more like Kearsie (if that's possible), so I thought I'd show you a few phrases people search for and somehow wind up on my amazing blog.

Ready, set, go...

cardio yoga
hahaha, I mentioned this once. Because I tried said cardio yoga once. I'm not a fan of almost dying from a heart attack. I bet whoever clicked was very unimpressed with my cardio yoga knowledge.

inside shauna's head
they were looking for me! or wanted to know what was in my head, other than my large + sexy brain.

card making tutrials
I am very intrigued to know what a 'tutrial' is. Is it kind of like a tutorial? hmmmm. Sounds fancy, and I like it.

dooce at powell's blog
hmmm, a dooce lover stalking her at Powell's, or is someone stalking ME, knowing I went to go see Heather at Powell's. Hmmmm. This makes me wish people would comment more. Am I scary?

how to make eyes less squinty in photoshop
we all know I suffer from extreme squint eye. I wonder if they found a way. Certainly not on my blog, as the ever-present squint eye lives!

I am part of the Neffendorf family. Who's trying to find me!?

squinty eye problem
I wouldn't call it a problem. I'd call it a condition, or a certain amazingly high degree of awesomeness and pizazz.

shaunas games
this only reminds me of the Backstreet Boys song 'Quit Playin Games (With My Heart)' and I am very concerned. For many reasons.

This was kind of fun, stay tuned for more.

Uh oh, just found a super disturbing phrase that was typed and led to my blog not once but twice...

shawna gives road head to the almost dead
I want to cry and cry. I told you all, there is no 'w' in my name. Sheesh. Oh, and all the rest of it, that's gross too.

I am off to wash my hands and throw bleach in my eyes.
